Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #20505

Customer Comments: Hi Greg, I am thinking of a folding screen that can be moved away from the fireplace when we want to. The fireplace is deep and the hearth is large. So we sometimes have an open fire. Attached is the photo you asked for. The left and right sides of the opening are odd. One side has stones all the way up to the opening and on the other the stones end just short and there is a recessed course of masonry. I think it makes sense to have e the screen extend to the stone on the left side. Opening is 32" to the lintel and approx.59" from stones to stones.

Our Comments: Here are a variety of screens to consider. I included some that are more convenient as they do not have to be moved to tend the fire. Hope this helps.

Free Standing Firelace Screen Door Option #3: Hearth Creations Free Standing Fireplace Screen Door in Matte Black. This screen comes with lintel clamps to keep it from falling over when the doors are opened, so tending the fire is convenient, but moving the screen out of the way is not.
Boston Spark Guard
Boston Spark Guard Option #4: Boston Spark Guard in Black. This is a light-weight design that is easy to move about. Mesh is not heavy duty.
Boston Spark Guard
Boston Spark Guard Option #5: Stone Manufacturing Hand Forged Wrought Iron Spark Guard. This is a very sturdy design with heavy duty mesh that does not easily dent.
Spark Guard Curtain Screen
Spark Guard Curtain Screen Option #6: Stone Manufacturing Spark Guard Curtain Screen with Bowed Mesh Side Panels and Center Mesh Curtains. This is a screen that I personally designed for larger fireplaces like yours. It stands on its own, but does not need to be moved out of the way to tend the fire, yet it is easily removable if needed.
Curtain Screen
Fireplace Curtain Screen Option #7: Stone Manufacturing C92 Curtain Screen with F92 Bottom Bar. These are still one of the most convenient screens for large fireplaces. Brackets are mounted to the lintel with self-tapping screws, so some drilling is required.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
