Customer Comments: I just want a basic screen, no decorative details. But having trouble finding one to fit this opening. 35 wide and the arch starts at 25 goes up to 36 in the middle.
Our Comments: There are 4 popular treatments for arched outdoor fireplaces like yours. A free standing single panel screen, free standing screen with doors, attached screen doors and attached glass doors. Glass doors with ceramic glass are the most ideal, but are very expensive. The ceramic glass doors allow you to burn fires with the doors closed, which is ideal when it is windy as it prevents smoke and ashes from blowing about.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass.
Outdoor Fireplace Materials: Materials designed specifically for outdoor fireplaces will be 304 stainless steel, 316 marine grade stainless steel (for salt air), zinc coated wrought iron or solid brass. Some manufacturers use a combination of these materials. The material has a significant impact on the price, so much so that some people will choose normal indoor steel that will rust over these more durable materials, because it is more affordable. There are variety of finishes are available depending on the material chosen.
Fireplace Opening: 35" W x 36" H (Center) x 25" H (Sides)

These doors are hand forged by a blacksmith from 1/4" thick solid wrought iron a zinc coating for added durability outdoors. Not only are these built to be used, they take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship and tasteful details. These can be made as mesh doors or glass doors with heavy duty gate mesh backup doors. Mesh doors are 316 marine grade stainless steel painted black. Glass can be tempered or ceramic. Ceramic glass is recommended, but gets very expensive.
Option #3: Hand Crafted Olde World Style Zinc Coated Wrought Iron Arched Fireplace Mesh Door in Distressed Black Copper w/316 Black Marine Grade Stainless Mesh. Can also be made with with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Duty Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
Option #4: Hand Crafted Olde World Style Zinc Coated Wrought Iron Arched Fireplace Glass Door in Distressed Black with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Duty 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel Gate Mesh Backup Doors. Can also be made without glass (mesh doors only).
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
