Custom Screen Doors for Full Arched Fireplace with Steps - Project #11456

Customer Comments: Hi, we are looking for some help with a custom fireplace screen/doors. We have a unique arched shape fireplace in a 1907 craftsman. We are putting in a gas log set and are looking for a fireplace screen primarily because we have little kids. I saw on your website this fireplace (Project #10982), which is really similar in shape to ours. Would you be able to send me some examples like you did for this project of some custom options and prices? I have attached several photos and dimensions of the fireplace. Given the unique brick inset at the top of the fireplace, I am not sure where the screen would need to be set in regards to the brick edging around the fireplace. Please let me know if you need anything else from me. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

After spending some time contemplating this, I have come up with what I think is the ideal solution. This is a free standing screen with fixed side panels and a single door. I chose the single door because it does not have a frame down the middle that blocks the view of the fire. If it was wood burning, I probably would use a double door for more convenience when tending a fire, but this works better if you are converting to gas logs. We can also help you choose a gas log and burner system that uses remote control so you really don’t have to open the door except for annual maintenance. I added some classic andirons to complete the look since a fireplace like this simply begs for them.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
