Glass Doors for Extra Large Fireplace - Project #11590

Customer Comments: Hello, I am interested in ordering glass fireplace doors for my large fireplace. Dimensions internally are 68x36 (does not include mantle). Photos attached. Please let me know if you need any additional information for a quote. I am interested in the stiletto glass (or something similarly minimalist) in black or grey metal. Thanks.

Our Comments: Here are some examples of minimal style doors that can be made to fit your extra large fireplace. If you are planning on burning a fire with the doors closed, you will either need fixed end panels or ceramic glass. We have created examples of both and then some.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Stiletto
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #1: Design Specialties Stiletto Fireplace Glass Door with Fixed End Panels in Rustic Black. Shown with Clear Glass and Mesh Curtains. With fixed end panels there are 6 panes of glass. The two outer panes do not open while the 4 center panes have bifold doors. This door can be burned with the glass closed. The Stiletto has a frame depth of 1 5/8", so it projects out from the fireplace that far. Can also be made with a Cutback low profile frame, but requires a very accurate opening dimension. See profiles below.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
