Our Comments: Here are some examples showing doors with narrow frames intalled overlapping and fitting inside the fireplace opening.

Before:
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1: Design Specialties Brookfield Light Gauge Aluminum Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass. 2 1/8" Wide Frame (Overlap Fit).
Option #2: Design Specialties Stiletto Light Gauge Aluminum Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass. 1" Wide Frame (Inside Fit).
These doors are made using a heavier gauge aluminum than the ones above. They are a little more expensive, but feel sturdier and have a nicer finish if you prefer a brushed nickel. The only downside is, they cannot be made more than 60" wide, so your only choice would be to do them as an inside fit.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Profile-4 Heavy Gauge Aluminum Fireplace Glass Door in Matte Black (Anodized) with Gray Glass. 1" Wide Frame (Inside Fit).

These doors are made using 3/16" thick solid stainless steel that is laser cut. The frame with can be as narrow as 1 1/4" for an inside fit and 1 1/2" for an overlap fit, depending on the lintel thickness. If you are close to the ocean, stainless steel is a better choice due to the salt air. The same look is also available in normal steel with a satin nickel overlay or just plain black in either stainless steel or normal steel.

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
Option #8: Stone Manufacturing CD-2 Solid Brass Fireplace Door with Pewter Frame and #88 Prince of Wales Casting Doors in Hand Polished Brass with Clear Glass.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
